Echofon1/11/2024 Have any thoughts on this? Carry the discussion over to our Twitter or Facebook. This is a developing situation, and we’ll keep monitoring it for any changes. It’s worth noting that the timing is just a coincidence. The last recorded issue was in September 2022, just before Musk took over as CEO. The status page hasn’t had any logged issues for a while now. The company’s API status page is seemingly broken, claiming everything is fully operational. The Twitter API isn’t the only thing that isn’t working. Another developer claims their app had issues but appeared to work normally. One developer says that the Developer Portal shows their apps a “SUSPENDED” status. Twitter’s developer forums show that apps started to experience authentication issues last night. The problems don’t appear to be limited to users. We’re hoping this is just a temporary glitch and will let you know more as soon as we know more.- Tweetbot by Tapbots January 13, 2023 We’ve reached out to Twitter for more details, but haven’t heard back. Tweetbot and other clients are experiencing problems logging in to Twitter. Hillel Fuld, tech marketer, and consultant tweeted something interesting: The question here seems to be whether this is a temporary API bug or if Twitter intentionally cut off third-party app access. The only unaffected client they found was Tweetdeck, which isn’t a third-party app anymore, as Twitter owns it. Users trying to access the apps are receiving error messages about authentication problems.ĩto5Google reports that the errors are happening on all third-party Twitter clients. Popular third-party Twitter clients such as Tweetbot, Twitterrific, and Echofon stopped working at around 11 PM ET on Thursday, January 12. Twitter’s API seems broken, cutting off access to many third-party Twitter clients. Continue reading below for the original report. One senior software engineer noted in a Twitter Slack message that “third-party app suspensions are intentional.” This could be an effort from the company to drive people to Twitter and improve ad revenue. Instead, it was a decision made by Twitter. In the mean time, let's kick things off here in the comments.UPDATE : According to The Information, the current API issues aren’t a bug. If you have any OS X clients you'd like to request I look at or features you want me to pay special attention to, drop a note on our feedback page. I'll be doing this slowly, probably one every week or two, and writing up my experiences. In this world, however, I have promised Kelly to start road testing Twitter clients. In the best of all worlds, of course, a public outcry would force Naan to bring Echofon for OS X back - renewing support for a great client. Even better, the drawer has a history feature, so I can walk back. I love the conversation bubble integration with the side-drawer. I love that it adds information I want like the time the tweet was posted - missing in the official Twitter client. I love the minimality of the interface, like the simple + button (versus, for example, the official Twitter client's huge "Save" button) that transforms searches into saved items. 12, around 11 PM EST, people on social media began reporting that third-party apps such as Tweetbot, Echofon, Owly, and Twitterrific weren't working properly. I love the customizable notification controls, with highlight words and Growl support. It may not be the prettiest client, but it's extra readable for those of us with bad eyes. I love how the layout is vertical, with icons on the top, and tweets displayed using the full window width. I love how I can click on the dock icon and my feed appears and disappears. There are things I love about Echofon that speak strongly to me, but may not be essential for other users: We quickly realized how individualized client choice is. Ecophon develops, manufactures and markets acoustic panels, baffles and ceiling systems that contribute to a good working environment by enhancing peoples. She, another Echofon fan, had dropped it a few months ago after Naan said they would stop development. It was, she pointed out, long since time to move on from Echofon. Although TUAW has done individual reviews an any number of Twitter apps, she wanted me to start looking at popular clients with the angle of searching for a replacement. Kelly H pulled me to the side, the other day. My love for this no-longer-supported app, however, continues - even if it's beginning to feel a little like appnecrophilia. It still works great, however, and probably will until Twitter drops support for its 1.0 API. Naan Studio discontinued it last October. When it hopped to OS X, I was delighted and immediately installed a copy. It was among the first apps I bought for iOS, and remains to this day on my devices.
